The complex upgrading and expansion works on Port Infrastructures for Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) continues. After the first handover during Spring 2016 of the Phase 2 Port Expansion, at the beginning of 2017 also the third phase has been awarded to the Mantovani JV for the full repositioning of the Aqaba Port to the new location within the southern industrial zone of ASEZA (Aqaba, Jordan) near the border with Saudi Arabia.
This is a significant Project of national importance in Jordan that fully involved Mantovani’s technicians and engineers, together with its local and historical Italian partners and subcontractors.
New quay walls together with other marine services harbor has been built and executed, including significant dredging and reclamation works activities that will be completed in the next few months.
The Port’s location proved to be a key challenge on this project due to the area being a seismic zone and involves a wide spectrum of civil, structural and geotechnical aspects. As a result, together with International Consultants and Designers, Mantovani JV found Value Engineering solutions that meet strict corrosion and structural requirements whist also being suitably robust to withstand seismic activity and the potential for liquefaction.
Furthermore those optimizations for steel combi-piles, back anchor system, concrete diaphragm and precast elements improve durability and were ultimately cost effective to the Client.
